Disclosed are a cathode active material and a lithium battery using the cathode active material. The cathode active material attaches an island-shaped conductive unit to at least one silicon-based nanowire arranged on a carbon-based material, thereby improving electrical conductivity of the silicon nanowire and lifespan characteristics of the lithium battery by reducing detachment caused by expansion of volume of the silicon nanowire.
