摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool in which a hard coating layer has excellent wear resistance and defect resistance, and which exhibits superior tool properties over a long period of time even when using the tool for high-speed intermittent lathe-turning processing of high hardness steel such as stainless steel and alloy steel.SOLUTION: A surface coated cutting tool comprises a hard coating layer which is formed on a tool base surface by vapor deposition and which contains at least a compound nitride layer having an average layer thickness of 0.5 to 7.0 μm and consisting of a component system of (AlTi)N(x=0.5 to 0.7). When observing the compound nitride layer from a cross-sectional direction, crystal grains with a particle width of 10 nm or more exist by 50 area% or more, and an indentation with a depth of 50 nm or more and a width of 50 nm or more exists on a boundary surface of the tool base. In the indentation, a compound nitride area regulated at a height of 200 nm×an indentation width by using an average boundary surface of the tool base as a center is a low crystalline area where an existence rate of the crystal grains with the particle width of 10 nm or more is 5 area% or less.
