PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material for a nonaqueous secondary battery with improved initial charge and discharge efficiency and gas generation suppression effect, and an excellent cycle characteristic while suppressing increase of negative electrode resistance.SOLUTION: An active material for a nonaqueous secondary battery negative electrode contains an active material (A) capable of insertion and desorption of a lithium ion, and an organic compound (B). The organic compound (B) has a &pgr; conjugate structure, and a basic group.
