An organic light emitting element (10) is provided with a transparent substrate (13), an internal light extraction layer (2) and a transparent metal electrode (1). In this organic light emitting element (10), the internal light extraction layer (2) sequentially has a light scattering layer (2a) and a smooth layer (2b) in this order, said layers (2a, 2b) being formed on the transparent substrate (13). The light scattering layer (2a) contains light scattering particles which have an average particle diameter of 0.2 μm or more but less than 1 μm and a refractive index of 1.7 or more but less than 3.0. The internal light extraction layer (2) has (i) a refractive index of 1.7 or more but less than 2.5, (ii) an absorptance of less than 15% with respect to light having a wavelength within the range of 450-700 nm, and (iii) a haze value of 30% or more. |
