PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic tape capable of forming a lubricant layer on the side of a magnetic layer uniformly on the surface of the magnetic tape by an easy method to allow cost reductions. ! SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a magnetic tape 1 comprising: a magnetic tape body 2 including a magnetic layer 5 laminated and formed on one surface of a nonmagnetic support 3; and a lubricant layer on the side of the magnetic layer 7 formed on a surface 2a on the side of the magnetic tape body 2 where the magnetic layer 5 is formed. The lubricant layer on the side of the magnetic layer 7 is formed by moving a belt-like application cloth 11 impregnated with a lubricant to slide and come into contact with the surface 2a on the side of the magnetic tape body 2 where the magnetic layer 5 is formed. !
