<p>The present invention relates to a method for diagnosis and/or prognosis or for monitoring the activity of the enzyme LCAT in the central nervous system, comprising the steps of measuring the amount of non-esterified cerebrosterol ([24(S)OH—CNE]) and the amount of total cerebrosterol ([24(S)OH—CTOT]) in a biological fluid and calculating the amount of esterified cerebrosterol ([24(S)OH-CE]), in which [24(S)OH-CE]═[24(S)OH—CTOT]-[24(S)OH—CNE]. In addition, the determination of [24(S)OH—CNE] and [24(S)OH-CE] enables the diagnosis and/or prognosis of a neurodegenerative disease or monitoring of the efficacy of a therapeutic treatment of a neurodegenerative disease and/or the screening of a therapeutic treatment of a neurodegenerative disease.</p> |
