PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bipolar forceps that appropriately and effectively seal a blood vessel.SOLUTION: The bipolar forceps for clamping and sealing a tissue includes at least one elongated shaft having opposing jaw members at a distal end of the shaft which are movable relative to each other from a first position where the jaw members are disposed in spaced relation relative to each other to a second position where the jaw members cooperate to grasp the tissue therebetween. The forceps are connected to a source of electrical energy which is connected to each of the jaw members such that the jaw members are capable of conducting energy through the tissue held therebetween. At least two non-conductive stop members are disposed on an inner facing surface of at least one of the jaw members to control the distance between the jaw members when the tissue is held therebetween, and are spaced-apart from each other.
