An actuating element (4) is arranged on housing and is connected to the control unit such that an operation signal is received to the control unit upon actuation by a user. A communication unit (10) is arranged partially in the housing, is connected indirectly with a portable unit (13) and by which identification data for performing user identification is received. The control unit has a communication line (25) connected to an output unit (22). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) an electronic ignition switch system; and (2) a motor vehicle.
