[Class 18] Paper from a loosely supported roll 14 within a holder is withdrawn through a pair of nip rollers 15, 16 and severed against a cutting edge 27 of a pivoted plate 22. The pivoted plate 22 carries arms 21 having pawls 26a and between which is supported a weighted rod 23. The pawls 26a engage stops on cams 26 mounted on the upper roller 15 so that to withdraw a length of paper it is necessary to displace the plate 22 inwardly to disengage the pawls 26a from their stops after which the rollers 15, 16 are permitted to rotate under the action of withdrawing the paper. The plate 22 being released on withdrawal of the paper is urged under the influence of the weighted rod 23 back to its original position in which the pawls are caused to engage their stops after one revolution of the roller 15, thereafter the paper is severed on the cutting edge 27. Guide plates 18, 19 extend from the supply roll to guide the paper to the rollers and the plate 19 is suitably slotted to extend between grooves formed in the rollers to project forward to form a front guide plate 19a. A rearwardly extending guide plate 28 having fingers 29 extending into the grooves of the roller 15 is provided on the plate 22. Knurled wheels mounted on the upper roller are provided for facilitating the initial engagement of the paper with the rollers, and to enable the wheels to be operated slots are formed in the plate 22 through which they project when the plate is displaced inwardly. Where perforated paper is used, the lower roller may be arranged to be dropped clear of the upper roller to enable the perforations to be aligned with the cutting edge. |
