The cam shaft device has an axially displaceable cam element (10) for a valve lift, for simultaneous operation of two different gas shuttle valves (11) of a cylinder of the combustion engine. The combustion engine is provided with two cam tracks (12,13,19,20) having same valve opening durations. The different gas shuttle valves are associated with the cam tracks having different valve lift courses, and different gas exchange times.
