A transfer apparatus for bringing a heating member and a transfer platen into press-contact with each other via a transfer film and transferring an image formed on the transfer film to a recording medium, comprising: an image transfer section, having the heating member and the transfer platen, configured to be able to shift between an actuation position in which the heating member and the transfer platen are brought into press-contact with each other and a retracted position in which the heating member and the transfer platen are separated; a recording medium transport device transporting the recoding medium; a peeling member disposed on a downstream side in a transfer film transport direction in image transfer by the image transfer section to peel off the transfer film from the recording medium; a transfer film transport device transporting the transfer film on the downstream side of the peeling member in the transfer film transport direction in image transfer; a transfer film feeding device feeding the transfer film on an upstream side from the recording medium in the transfer film transport direction in image transfer; and a control device controlling a transfer film feed amount by the transfer film feeding device, wherein the transfer film feeding device is comprised of a transfer film carry roller that nips the transfer film in between a supply spool around which an unused transfer is wound and a wind spool around which a used transfer film is wound to transport the transfer film, and the control device makes a transfer film transport amount by the transfer film feeding device larger than a recording medium transport amount by the recording medium transport device during image transfer to sag the transfer film on the upstream side from the recording medium, and decreases the transfer film transport amount by the transfer film feeding device for a period during which a rear end of the recording medium passes through the image transfer section and arrives at the peeling member to decrease a sag amount of the transfer film.
