[Class 100 (i)] A side-registering device for controlling sheets as they are fed to printing &c. machines is described in. connection with a rotary offset printing-machine to which tin sheets are fed by means of pushers 9. The sheets pass over a table formed of slats 5, and are registered by means of a plurality of guide components such as rollers 24 journalled in an arm 22 pivoted to a transversely adjustable block 25 mounted on a cross-bar 4. The arm 22 is given an oscillating motion from the position shown in Fig. 4, by means of a lever connection with a reciprocating rod 12 actuated by a cam driven by the printing-machine. The rollers 24 are arranged in curved form and only two engage the sheet at a time. The rollers 24 press the other edge of the sheet into contact with a resiliently mounted member which as shown takes the form of a similar set of rollers 34 mounted in a bar 33 carried by spring-pressed parallel links mounted on an arm 32 which is oscillated in a reverse direction to the arm 22. As the sheet A advances it is moved by the rollers 34 into contact with the rollers 24, the arrangement being such that the sheet is engaged at the same distance from its front edge D successively by a pair of rollers 24 and 34, and finally its side position is determined by engagement with the roller 24 on the extreme left of the arm 22. The bar 33 is also controlled by a counterweight 51, and means may be provided for preventing the bar 33 from moving relatively to its supporting arm in order to allow the sheet to be registered by its lefthand edge as shown in Fig. 1. In this case the bar 22 is constructed with a yieldingly mounted bar similar to the bar 33. |
