Disclosed in the present invention are a device capable of diagnosing imbalance of a battery bank, and a method thereof. According to the present invention, the device for diagnosing imbalance of a battery bank diagnoses whether a battery pack, in which a plurality of battery banks including battery cells electrically connected in parallel are connected in series, is unbalanced. The device includes a current sensor unit which measures charging or discharging current of the battery pack and outputs a current value; a voltage sensor unit which measures the voltage of each battery bank included in the battery pack and outputs bank voltage values; and a control unit which calculates voltage variation by time of each battery bank using the measured bank voltage values of each battery bank, calculates impedance variation by time of each battery bank using each calculated voltage variation and the current value, and determines whether each battery bank is unbalanced by analyzing the pattern of the calculated impedance variation by time. According to the present invention, a battery bank, including battery cells connected in parallel, shows similar voltage variation patterns in charging and discharging, and the existence of imbalance is determined based on the impedance of the battery bank. Therefore, possible misjudgment which may happen when the determination solely depends on voltage can be prevented. |
