PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulley capable of preventing caught-in accident. SOLUTION: The pulley 2 includes: a disk 8 rotatably attached to a shaft 6 supported between a pair of opposed side plates 4 and formed with a groove on the outer peripheral surface; and a hanging unit 10 mounted to the side plate 4, and is used while a wire rope 12 is laid on the outer peripheral surface of the disk 8. The pulley 2 includes the protection unit 18 comprising a metal wire having a linear part of a set length and a helical part continued to the linear part and helically wound at a plurality of times, in the linear part of the protection unit 18, a distal end is rockably engaged with the mounting hole 20 formed on the side plate 4, and the helical part is formed to a helical pitch and a helical diameter capable of being wound on the wire rope 12.
