发明名称 Adjustable holders for sliding members
摘要 647,078. Window holders. DEAL SLIDELOCK DEVICES, Inc. Feb. 19, 1948, No. 4900. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1947, [Class 44] A device for holding a sliding member, e.g. a window, in any position, comprises a guideway, coacting wedge members in the guideway, a bracket member operatively connected with the wedge members and variable biassing means acting on the wedge members so that a greater force is required to move the bracket in one direction than in the other. In the form shown in the exploded view of Fig. 1b, the wedge members 17, 19 are slidably carried in the guideway 7 between the lugs 10, 11 of a coupling member 8 connected to the bracket 4 on the window. The wedges are forced together to cause them to expand into locking engagement with the walls of the guideway by a lower spring 22 and a locking' spring 25 supporting the weight of the window. Downward pressure to lower the window is transmitted to the spring 25 through the lug 5 on the bracket acting on the head of the adjusting screw 26 and compresses the spring until a pin 32 projecting from the lower wedge is engaged by the upper end of a slot 36 formed in the bracket member 4. This releases the locking action and allows the device to slide. Upward pressure is transmitted through the bracket lug 6 to the coupling member 8 which is connected by a pin 31 engaging in a hole 34 to the upper wedge. This also releases the locking action and allows the device to slide upwardly. The pressure required to cause the window to slide downwardly must be more than the weight of the window and is adjusted by turning the screw 26 to displace the block 28 and compress the spring 25. The end of the pin 32 and the slot 36 may be covered by a cap 33. A steel ribbon or wire may be passed between the wedges to increase the locking effect. In a modification, the bracket 4 is provided with a horizontal lug instead of the vertical lug 5. This lug is perforated to pass the head of the screw 26 and acts downwardly on a washer abutting a shoulder on the screw. In a modification shown in Fig. 3a the wedge members 56, 59 are subject to the force of the locking spring 66 adjustable by a screw 62 acting against the top lug 64 of the coupling member 48. The bracket 50. has an upper lug 61 projecting through a slot in the coupling member and resting on the locking spring and a lower lug supporting a spring 51. Two pins 54, 55 on the bracket engage in openings 65, 63 in the wedges. the arrangement being such'that the upper wedge is contacted first in upward movement of the bracket and the lower wedge contacted first in downward movement of the bracket. In another modification the adjustment screw is engaged in the upper lug of the bracket and acts on the locking spring through a slidable block. The coupling member may be dispensed with, the abutments for the springs and the wedge actuating pins being carried by the bracket member. In the form of Fig. 6a the adjusting screw 119 is at the bottom and mounted on the coupling member 110 which is displaced to release the wedges by a handle 112. The bracket 107 has a projection passing through an aperture in the coupling member 110 and supported by the spring 105. Specification 569,723, [Group XIV], is referred to.
