To prevent the pigtailing of twisted nylon yarn 1 running from a source of supply 2 to a, point of progressive use, the yarn is drawn through a tensioning device 12 and is thereafter led completely around a freely rotatable pulley 6, or halfway round such a pulley 13, i.e. through an angle of at least 180 degrees, being held taut thereabout in a substantially unvarying loop.
