The present invention relates to an improved polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane and to a method for manufacturing the same. More specifically, a highly hydrophobic PTFE membrane is chemically modified to have hydrophilicity, and surface energy is increased to remarkably enhance water transmittance. Thus, costs can be reduced, at the same time weakening hydrophobic interaction between the membrane surface and pollutants to enhance the pollution-resistance of the improved PTFE membrane.
