The method involves determining two parameters characterizing the operation of a grinding mill (2). The derivative of the former parameter is determined after the latter parameter. The sign of the derivative is determined. The grinding mill is controlled or regulated depending on the sign of the derivative. The relative speed of a grinding unit (4) is used as former parameter and the power factor is used as latter parameter.
