The variator has a sun and ring gear and their relative motion tilts a roller carrier engaged with both. Driving the sun gear in this arrangement is problematic. A planet is provided in the cavity between and engaging with the sun and ring gear which is controllable independently of its engagement with the sun and ring gear. |
