摘要 Provided is a lighting device capable of displaying a desired image without an element such as a TFT in a light-emitting portion of the lighting device. The lighting device includes a light-emitting portion in which a plurality of light-emitting segments arranged in matrix and each including an EL layer between a pair of electrodes (an anode and a cathode). The area of a light-emitting region is varied as appropriate so as to obtain a desired light-emitting luminance from the light-emitting region in each the light-emitting segment; accordingly, gray-scale display can be performed and a still image can be displayed only by 1 external power source.

A lighting device comprising: a connection terminal; and a light-emitting portion comprising a plurality of light-emitting segments arranged in matrix, wherein each of the plurality of light-emitting segments comprises an anode, a cathode, and an EL layer between the anode and the cathode, wherein an area of a first light-emitting segment of the plurality of light-emitting segments is different from that of a second light-emitting segment of the plurality of light-emitting segments, wherein the EL layer in the first light-emitting segment and the EL layer in the second light-emitting segment emit light of the same color, wherein the anodes of the light-emitting segments are separated from each other, wherein the cathodes of the first light-emitting segment, a third light-emitting segment of the plurality of light-emitting segments and a fourth light-emitting segment of the plurality of light-emitting segments are separated from each other, wherein the anode of the first light-emitting segment is electrically connected to the cathode of the third light-emitting segment, and wherein the cathode of the first light-emitting segment is electrically connected to the anode of the fourth light-emitting segment.
