摘要 A printing device includes a printing material container, a controller and a voltage applying unit. The printing material container has a storage device, a plurality of terminals for the storage device, and first and second attachment detection terminals. The storage device stores information of the amount of a printing material. The controller is connected to the plurality of terminals for the storage device and controls reading or writing of data from or in the storage device. The voltage applying unit applies a voltage for detection of attachment to the first attachment detection terminal. When the voltage applying unit applies the voltage for the detection of the attachment to the first attachment detection terminal, the controller sets the terminals for the storage device to a high impedance state.

A printing device comprising: a printing material container that includes a storage device for storing information of a printing material, a plurality of terminals for the storage device, a first attachment detection terminal and a second attachment detection terminal; a controller that is connected to the plurality of terminals for the storage device and controls reading or writing of data from or in the storage device; a voltage applying unit that applies a voltage for detection of attachment to the first attachment detection terminal; and a short circuit detector, wherein when the voltage applying unit applies the voltage for the detection of the attachment to the first attachment detection terminal, the controller sets the plurality of terminals for the storage device to a high impedance state, wherein the printing material container further includes a first short circuit detection terminal and a second short circuit detection terminal, and wherein the short circuit detector is connected directly to the first and second short circuit detection terminals or connected through a circuit element to the first and second short circuit detection terminals and detects a short circuit between at least one of the first and second short circuit detection terminals and at least one of the first and second attachment detection terminals.
