PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reliably prevents transfer failure or separation failure without reducing productivity in image formation processing, and a control method thereof.SOLUTION: During warm-up after power-on, an image forming apparatus 100 calculates a resistance value R(first resistance value) of a transfer belt 6 based on a transfer voltage value Vto be obtained when reference transfer current Iflows in the transfer belt 6 and a potential value Vof a photoreceptor drum 1 measured by a potential measurement sensor 192. The first resistance value Ris compared with a reference resistance value R(second resistance value) of the transfer belt 6. When the first resistance value Ris determined to be smaller than the second resistance value R, a voltage application unit 180 is controlled so that a transfer current of a value obtained by dividing a reference transfer voltage value V, which is the integration of the reference transfer current value Iand the second resistance value R, by the first resistance value R, flows in the transfer belt 6. |
