PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a processing load when recognizing a road sign by sign recognition processing. ! SOLUTION: A camera ECU 10 analyzes an image obtained by imaging an area in the front of a vehicle with a camera 11, by a sign recognition unit 131 to recognize a road sign. The sign recognition unit 131 refers to recognition information of signs stored in a recognition information storage unit 134 in time series by a superhighway road section determination unit 131c, to determine whether a road on which the vehicle is traveling is in a superhighway section or not. In accordance with whether the road is in a superhighway section or not, the sign recognition unit 131 changes a scan range of the image captured by the camera 11 to detect a road sign by a sign detection unit 131a and changes a type of road signs to be recognized. !
