PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus employing a tandem system, and capable of suppressing the occurrence of abnormal images due to reverse transfer of toner images, while extending the life of an imaging unit for black longer than the life of imaging units for colors. ! SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has imaging units for colors 21Y, M, and C arranged from the upstream side in a direction of movement of an intermediate transfer belt 31 along a lower travel side on the intermediate transfer belt 31, and has an imaging unit 21K for black arranged on the most downstream side. The image forming apparatus further includes a lubricant application device 10K that is provided only to the imaging unit 21K for black, and applies lubricant to a photoreceptor drum 1K; and pre-transfer exposure means PTL 15Y, M, and C that are provided to the imaging units 21Y, M, and C for colors, respectively, and expose photoreceptor drums 1Y, M, and C carrying a toner image before primary transfer. !
