PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that attains a high contrast, and can appropriately cool an image pixel array.SOLUTION: The projector comprises: a light source; a modulation device 35; and a projection optical device. The modulation device 35 comprises: a dimming pixel array (a dimming panel 44); a first multiple lens 41 that is arranged on a light incident side of the dimming pixel array or a light emerging side thereof, and has a first lens 411 corresponding to a pixel 441; a second multiple lens 42 that is arranged on an emerging side of the dimming pixel array, and has a second lens 421 to which light is incident via respectively corresponding first lens 411; a third multiple lens 43 that has a third lens 431 collimating light to be incident from the corresponding second lens 421; and an image pixel array (an image panel 353) that modulates light to be incident from the multiple lens 43. The first and third lenses 411 and 431 constitute an afocal optical system, and the second lens 421 has a function of a field lens. |
