PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that can appropriately cool a pixel modulation device, while attaining a high contrast.SOLUTION: The projector comprises: a light source device 31; three pixel modulation devices 36 (36R, 36G and 36B) that respectively modulate color light of three colors included in a light flux emerged from the light source device 31 for each color light; a color synthesis device 37A that synthesizes each color light modulated by three pixel modulation devices; a projection optical device 38 that projects each of synthesized color light; illuminance adjustment devices 34 (34R, 34G and 34B) that are arranged between the light source device 31 and an object pixel modulation device 36 serving as at least any of three pixel modulation devices 36, and adjust an illuminance distribution in an in-plane orthogonal to a central axis of the light flux to be incident to the object pixel modulation device 36; and relay optical devices 35 (35R, 35G and 35B) that are arranged between the illuminance adjustment device 34 and the object pixel modulation device 36, and guide the light flux emerged from the illuminance adjustment device 34 to the object pixel modulation device 36. |
