PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material for a negative electrode of a lithium ion secondary battery capable of preventing reduction in charge movement resistance and reduction in capacity under a low-temperature environment when used for a lithium ion secondary battery, and to provide the lithium ion secondary battery employing the same.SOLUTION: A carbon material for a negative electrode of a lithium ion secondary battery is obtained by pulverizing a graphite material. The carbon material for the negative electrode of the lithium ion secondary battery has a 50% volume cumulative diameter of 0.8μm or more and 4.0μm or less, and a volume average particle diameter distribution having a second peak of the highest appearance frequency, and a first peak which is positioned at the side of a smaller particle diameter than the second peak. The carbon material for the negative electrode of the lithium ion secondary battery has a specific surface area according to the BET method of 20 m/g or more and 50 m/g or less. The carbon material for the negative electrode of the lithium ion secondary battery is used by pre-doping lithium. The lithium ion secondary battery is also disclosed which includes the carbon material for the negative electrode in which lithium is pre-doped. |
