PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer fiber structure suitable for application such as a functional filter. ! SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a polymer fiber structure including the steps of: dissolving a water-soluble polymer at a concentration not causing gelation of the water-soluble polymer in an aqueous solvent to form a polymer solution; quickly freezing the polymer solution to obtain a frozen object; and depressurizing the frozen object and removing the solvent at a pressure of 2.0 Pa or more and 100 Pa or less to obtain a dried object. The water-soluble polymer is preferably one or more kinds selected from among polyethylene oxide, sizofiran, guar gum, xanthan gum and polyvinylpyrrolidone. According to this production method, the polymer fiber structure formed by the water-soluble polymer fiber having a diameter of 1,000 nm or less, in particular 300 nm or less can be produced with high reproducibility. !
