The present invention relates to a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery and a lithium secondary battery including the same, which includes a cathode active material that is specifically doped with a trivalent metal (Me). According to an aspect of the present invention, provided is a cathode active material doped with a trivalent metal expressed by the formula, Li-xMn-2Me-yO-4 (where x is 0.5 to 1.3 and y is 0.0.1 to 0.1). According to the present invention, the elution of manganese ions of the cathode active material is remarkably reduced, and thus capacitance and cycle durability of a battery can be considerably improved.
