A method for pre-treatment of a carbon material simply and efficiently is provided to increase capacitance of the carbon material for capacitor electrodes by pre-treating the carbon material using quinoline before preparing a carbon material for capacitor electrodes by a chemical activation process or a steam activation process, and a carbon material for capacitor electrodes prepared by the method is provided. A method for pre-treatment of a carbon material comprises the steps of: (1) adding at least 40 weight parts of quinoline to 100 weight parts of a carbon material to mix the quinoline with the carbon material; and (2) heat-treating a mixture obtained in the step(1). The carbon material is selected from coal- and petroleum-based pitches, coconut char, coal- and petroleum-based cokes, and mixtures thereof. The quinoline is added to the carbon material in the amount of 50 to 100 weight parts with respect to 100 weight parts of the carbon material. The heat treatment process is performed at a temperature of 400 deg.C or less. The heat treatment process is performed for 30 to 60 minutes. A carbon material for capacitor electrodes is prepared by activating a carbon material that has been pre-treated by the method for pre-treatment of the carbon material. |
