The device (1) has an external frame (10) mounted on support legs (12) and provided with racks (15), which are closed by an access door (16). Each rack is provided for storing one of domestic gas bottles. A presence or absence detector (30) detects presence or absence of the bottle in the rack. The detector is provided with a weight sensor e.g. strain gauge, electronic spring balance or pressure change measurement oil piston, placed at the level of one of the support legs. The weight sensor measures variation of weight of the device.
