The present invention discloses a separator including a porous coating layer and an electrochemical device including thereof. The separator according to the present invention comprises the second inorganic particle positioned in the empty space of the first inorganic particles in which they are adjacent to each other. And in case the average diameter of the first inorganic particle is 2r, the average diameter of the second inorganic particle will be 2 (3(sup)0.5(/sup)-1) r or less the porous coating layer including the first inorganic particles in at least one side of the porous base material and porous base material, the second inorganic particles, and a binder polymer. According to the invention, it improves the packing density of the inorganic particle without the increase of the thickness of the porous coating layer. In this way, the performance of the degradation due to the increase in the internal resistance of the electrochemical device will be prevented, and the safety of the electrochemical device can also be improved. |
