An embodiment of the present invention relates to an audio jack detector and a detecting method. The audio jack detector detects a connection state between an audio socket including a detection pin and a first signal pin and an audio jack. The audio jack detector comprises: a first current source to supply a first detection current; a second current source to supply a second detection current which is greater than the first detection current; and a buffer to generate a detection signal according to a detection pin voltage inputted from the detection pin. The audio jack detector determines that the audio jack and the audio socket is combined when the detection signal is maintained in a state of a combination initiation time after the second current source, instead of the first current source, is connected to the detection pin at the combination initiation time when the detection pin and the first signal pin are electrically connected to each other.
