According to methods for encoding/decoding a high definition image and an apparatus for performing the same, a size of prediction unit to be coded according to a temporal frequency characteristic or a spatial frequency characteristic between at least one picture to be coded is set as an extension macro block size, and motion prediction and motion compensation are performed in the set prediction unit size unit and conversion is performed. Further, a macro block having a 32x32 pixel size or a 64x64 pixel size is divided based on an edge, and each divided partition is coded. Accordingly, coding efficiency with respect to high resolution image of HD(High Definition) grade of greater may be improved. |
