PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon modifed particle for electrowetting display capable of being used as a coloring component for electrowetting display. ! SOLUTION: A carbon modifed particle 21 for electrowetting display includes a carbon particle 22 and a surface part 23 disposed on a surface of the carbon particle 22 and consisting of a particle surface. In the carbon modifed particle 21 for electrowetting display, the particle surface is formed of a compound which the constituent atoms are only a carbon atom and a hydrogen atom, or a compound which the total of the carbon atom, the hydrogen atom, an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom and a sulfur atom is 95 mass% or more in the total 100 mass% of the constituent atoms, and a ratio of the mass of the carbon atom to the total mass of the oxygen atom, the nitrogen atom and the sulfur atom is 5 or more. !
