The device has an airbag (7) that is provided in rear region of the vehicle (2) and is filled with gas for detecting vehicle imminent collision or collision triggered for vehicle. The airbag is designed as a knee air bag and arranged directly in the region of a lower longitudinal beam (6) in the interior of the vehicle in the non-triggered state. The airbag is arranged in the portion of a B-pillar (5) directly in the non-triggered state. The airbag is integrated in a cladding portion of the lower longitudinal beam and/or B-pillar in the non-triggered state.
