A device for use in preventing stroke is provided. The device may include an expandable member that expands from a non-expanded configuration to an expanded configuration. The expandable member is located at a neck of a patient. An associated method is provided.

1. A system for use in prevention of stroke, comprising:
a compression device for applying a compressive force to a carotid artery, wherein the compression device is adjustable so as to apply the compressive force and so as to not apply the compressive force; and an actuation device for causing the compression device to apply the compressive force, wherein the compressive force is applied in a cyclical nature based upon a cardiac cycle.
