The present invention provides a collagen sponge which exhibits a compressive strength (stress) equivalent to that of the tissue into which the collagen sponge is to be implanted, which exhibits neither structure unevenness nor stress unevenness, and which has a pore structure into which cells can be infiltrated. This collagen sponge is a sponge which is obtained by subjecting a dispersion or solution of collagen having a collagen concentration of 50mg/ml or more or a mixture of both to freeze-drying and insolubilization treatment successively, which exhibits a stress of 10 to 30kPa when loaded with 10% strain, and which has, in the surface and in the inside, such a pore structure that the mean pore diameter is 50 to 400μm with the pore diameter standard deviation being at most 80% of the mean pore diameter. |
