The present invention relates to: a hook block (60) which is configured so that the entry of foreign matter from an opening is reduced and so that the hook block (60) is easy to grasp, increasing work efficiency; and a rope hoist (10) which is provided with the hook block (60). The hook block (60) comprises: a connection section (62) which is provided with a pair of support shaft sections which rotatably support hook sheaves (61); first covers (65) which have cutouts for exposing the hook sheaves (61); and second covers (66) which are provided with a pair of sheave cover sections (67) for covering the cutouts. The sheave cover sections (67) are provided with outwardly protruding sections (672) which protrude outward away from the cutouts in the radial direction of the hook sheaves (61) and which are provided with openings through which wire ropes (W) are capable of being drawn to the outside. The openings are provided so that the length thereof is less than the circumferential length of the portions of the hook sheaves (61) which are exposed by the cutouts. The second covers (66) are provided with a grip section (68) which connects the pair of sheave cover sections (67, 67) together and which is grasped by a worker.
