The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition containing an extract of Geum japonicum thumb. as an active ingredient, the composition characterized by containing 0.001-30.0 wt% of Geum japonicum thumb. as an active ingredient for the total weight of the cosmetic composition. According to the present invention, the extract of the Geum japonicum thumb. has a MMP-1 production inhibiting effect, a collagen biosynthesis effect, a melanogenesis inhibiting effect, an antiseptic effect, an anti-wrinkle effect, and a moisturizing effect to provide various kinds of functional cosmetics.
