Process and device for directly medicinally treating interior tissue during or after intubation of a patient by passing medicinal radiant energy transversely through the intubation device to irradiate the internal patient tissue for promoting healing or for an antimicrobial effect. The invention is useful in conjunction with endoscopies and catherizations, such as urinary catherization, gastric and pulmonary endoscopies, and the like procedures. The process and device can also provide liquid flow and/or vision.

1. A process for medicinally treating tissue at an interior location within a patient, the interior location being accessible by intubation, and passing a fluid to or from the patient through an intubation device, which process comprises
(A) intubating the patient for accessing the interior location using an intubation device comprising (1) an interior lumen within an exterior sleeve and (2) a fluid channel within the exterior sleeve; (B) during and/or after the intubation, irradiating the tissue at the interior location of the patient with medicinal radiant energy by passing the medicinal radiant energy from the interior lumen transversely through the exterior sleeve of the intubation device to irradiate the tissue cells at the interior location of the patient with the medicinal radiant energy at a power and accumulated dose effective for providing a direct medicinal benefit to the treated tissue cells by the medicinal radiant energy; and (C) after intubation, passing a fluid to or from the patient through the fluid channel.
