The invention relates to a flame retardant composition containing a compound of formula I:(A-H)a (+)[MEb m+(H2PO4)x1 (-)(HPO4)x22(-)(PO4)x3 3(-)(PO3)y(-)](a-)∙ pH2O (I); and a derivative of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphorylphenanthrene-10-oxide or polymer complexes of this derivative, in which every ME is, independently, one of Cu, Mg, Ca, Zn, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, TiO, ZrO, VO, B, Si, Al, Sb, La, Ti, Zr, Ce or Sn, and (A-H) (+) for example is a melamine, melam or melem. According to one embodiment, x2 = 1 and x1 = x3 = y = 0. In addition, according to one embodiment, a = m and b = 1 where m, for example, can be (2) or (3). The flame retardant composition is particularly suitable for flame proofing plastics, particularly polyamides. |
