An LED illumination dimming circuit comprising: a capacitor having one end thereof connected to a first output terminal and the other end connected to a second output terminal; a coil having one end thereof connected to the other end of the capacitor; a switch element having one end thereof connected to the other end of the coil; a resistance having one end thereof connected to the other end of the switch element and the other end connected to a ground terminal; a diode having a cathode connected to a power supply terminal and an anode connected to the other end of the coil; and a control circuit that controls the operation of the switch element by using a switch control signal, said control being performed in accordance with a dimming signal indicating the dimming rate of an LED element, a detected voltage corresponding to the voltage drop of the resistance, and the detected current flowing to the coil.
