The method is characterized in that the at least one parameter is a phase position of the echo signal (E), and/or a speed with which a level of the filling material (1) in the container (3) changes, and/or a change in amplitude of the echo signal (E), and/or a temperature of the filling material (1), and/or a change in temperature of the filling material (1), and/or a change in the change in amplitude of the echo signal (E).
