An apparatus (62) for supporting a person's head when seated in a vehicle has a pivotally openable and closeable housing (12) having a first side portion (16) and a second side portion (18) adapted to pivot relative to one another by pivoting means. The pivoting means comprises an elongated hinge (20) interconnecting the side portions so that they can pivot relative to one another about a common pivot axis. The first side portion has a first cavity (22) within which, in use, is located a first cushion (24), and the second side portion has a second cavity (26) within which, in use, is located a second cushion (28). The housing is adapted to open to receive the person's head between the first and second cushions, whereby the head is supported by one or both of the cushions. There are adjustable strap means (80,82) for releasably attaching the housing to an immobile mounting location with respect to the person's head, the immobile mounting location being the trunk of the person's body. Both of the first and second side portions include apertures (50,90). To a selected aperture (90) of the first side portion is attached one end of the strap means (80) and to a selected aperture of the second side portion is attached an other end of the strap means (82). The strap means (80,82) is configured to be adjustable in length and to releasably attach the housing to the trunk of the person's body by extending from one of the side portions over the shoulder and under the armpit of the person and around to the other of the side portions. 8+ |
