Method and device for predicting the performance of a system for communication over a transmission channel. The invention is aimed at a method of predicting the performance of a communication system over a transmission channel, this system comprising: ¾ a sender able to apply to information bits, sent by a source, a bit-interleaved coded modulation so as to generate coded symbols, these coded symbols being transmitted by the sender over the transmission channel, this coded modulation being based on a turbo-code comprising at least two constituent codes; and ¾ an iterative receiver, able to implement an iterative interference cancellation technique for processing the coded symbols received from the transmission channel, this iterative receiver comprising an equalizer, a demodulator and a turbo-decoder which are activated during each iteration implemented by the iterative receiver, the turbo-decoder comprising at least two decoders making it possible to decode respectively the constituent codes of the turbo-code, these decoders being able to exchange probabilistic quantities in an iterative manner.
