The fuel injector (12) has a flushing channel (32) which guides from the fuel collecting volume (28) to a flushing outlet (34) of the injector, where a high-pressure part (22) is provided with a device for shut-off in the return flow direction between a high-pressure inlet (24a) and the fuel collecting volume. The flushing channel is formed with another device for the shut-off in the return flow direction between the flushing outlet and the fuel collecting volume. The fuel injector has an actuating element space (48), in which an actuating element is received. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a fuel flushing system with a bypass device; and (2) a flushing method for executing with a fuel injector.
