METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING A MAILPIECE THICKNESS

The method involves pinching a flat object (1) between a fixed plate (2) and an elastically deformable wheel (3) rotatably mounted around a fixed axle (4). The wheel has a tread (4a) contacting the object and radially deformed under the pressure exerted by the object while the object is pinched. A laser beam is guided on a reflective strip (4b) of the wheel to measure thickness of the object, where the strip is parallel to the tread. - Independent claims are also included for the following: - (A) a device for measuring thickness of a flat courier article - (B) a postal sorting machine comprising thickness measuring device.
