A method of manufacture of an aircraft landing gear component

A method of manufacturing a complex aircraft landing gear component (2) having a plurality of sub-components, the method comprising: forming a first metal sub-component (4); and joining a second metal sub-component (6) to the first metal sub-component by hot isostatic pressing (HIP or HIPing) to form the complex aircraft landing gear component. The two sub-components may be made from similar or dissimilar materials and they may be formed of powdered metal or of solid metal. Preferably the sub-components are machined prior to the joining process such that the joining process renders a component in the final or near-final shape. Optionally a third metal sub-component is positioned between the first and second sub-components in order to facilitate the bonding and to reduce the galvanic potential between the two materials. Another preferred mode is to provide interlocking interfaces between the first and second sub-components in order to improve said bonding.
