a video display device (100) with a liquid crystal display comprising:
a plurality of light sources (116,116a) disposed on a substrate (117), wherein each said plurality of light sources emit light rays and have an optical axis;
a diffuser (114,114',114a') spaced from said plurality of light sources, such that light from said plurality of light sources is refracted through said diffuser and reflected back towards said substrate;
a reflector (115,115') provided over said substrate and around and between said plurality of light sources so as to receive light reflected back from said diffuser and to reflect that light back towards said diffuser; a reflective polarizer; and
a depolarizing device (121) positioned in front of said display device comprising an oriented birefringment clear polymer film;
a mirror element (30,305) having a partially reflective, partially transmissive coating which in combination with the reflective polarizer (103b), has a reflectance of at least 45 percent, wherein said video display device, together with said mirror element, is configured to provide a luminosity when viewed through said mirror element of at least about 250 cd/m 2 . |
